Cristiano Antonelli's 1992 "The Economics of Information Networks,"
which opens his edited collection on the subject, is also a classic
on this subject, and Gernot Grabher was also doing work further
exploring networks as opposed to hierarchies and firms during that
period. Antonelli's work is particularly interesting and important
because he achieves his insights inductively based on a couple
of decades of analysis of the operations of transnational firms
headquartered in countries all around the world in work supported by
the now-long-defunct UN Centre on Transnational Corporations.
