Just a "me too" to Steve's remark:

I've been busy with "Google Docs" as a seemingly simple and
accessible means of co-operative production of a newsletter these last
months. But even with the - seemingly - easy access condition of that
tool, ad the definiteley priviledged communications means among my dear
journalist colleagues, the barriers showed too high (some never managed
to "get in") - and costly: the mere notice to some participant to access
the common "doc" ate some fifty-plus KB: someone travellig in Africa had
to pay a full five US$$$ to download it. Not to speak of running costs -
and necessary equipment conditions to do so - to then participate
actively in editing from "on the spot".
So we returned to old-fashioned email for most of it.
Bye-bye "interactive participation".
