In Germany at least, the Government has some problems now to easily access
our personal computer files - wherever they are. The concept of a "basic
right to the confidentiality and integrity of information-technical
systems" was just "invented" in a Wednesday ladmark ruling by the
constitutional court. I wrote a short summary in my blog:
<http://bendrath.blogspot.com/2008/02/germany-new-basic-right-to-privacy-of.html>

Of course, people elsewhere may not have the same legal tradition, and it
is better to not have all your data stored in a machine beyond your
control. But apart from that, I like the conceptual idea behind this new
right.

Best, Ralf
