<incom> FLOSS in schools: a query (and seeking your help)

Dear all:

I am a Goa-based journalist, and have written quite a bit on the
Free/Libre and Open Source Software network/movement in India. Inspite
of this, as you could imagine, finding relevant information is always
a challenge, the FLOSS world being rather decentralised and driven by
unplanned spontaneity. You can find some links to my earlier work at
http://fn-floss.notlong.com or http://wikiwikiweb.de/FrederickNoronha

Recently, I've working on a paper on Free/Libre and Open Source
Software in Schools, which is being written for the International Open
Source Network (IOSN-South Asia), one of the three regional networks
started by IOSN.net (please see its website at this URL).

In this connection, I would be grateful if you could point me to
useful links about such ventures, where it has been used successfully
or otherwise. What I'm basically looking out for is FLOSS-in-school
initiatives -- which have either worked, or haven't -- and links to
people who have initiated them or even just URLs that could give me
more information on the same. I'm also interested in just about any
FLOSS software that would be useful in school environments. Or
initiatives to deploy the same in South Asia. Do you know of any
FLOSS-for-schools software written in India itself? Or localised or
adapted here?

A draft paper (work-in-progress) of what I've put together so far can be read at
http://www.divshare.com/download/2205748-36f Feel free to download it.

It's amazing how many useful leads a few queries via cyberspace can
throw up, and I plan to share the results of my work with all
(specially those interested in this field) once it's finalised and
done. The paper itself will be published in some Creative Commons
licensing.

As an aside, I've posted a more concise form of this query to many of
the groups that form part of the user-group network in India. If you
would like to know more about these groups, please see a wiki page
that I maintain at http://wikiwikiweb.de/LugsList

While I'm looking for inputs primarily from South Asia, it would be
nice to also learn about the initiatives of others, in other parts of
the globe, specially in the South (Asia, Africa, Latin America).

Your suggestions, comments and critique is welcome.

Thanks in advance for any help you could offer. FN

PS: BTW, by some quirk of fate (okay, I must admit I'm fascinated with
the idea too personally), I have been writing about FLOSS in India for
the past half-dozen years .. and hope to someday author a book of
profiles of the young men (and few women) involved in this field here.
There's far more happening than we're aware about....
