No, it's not a bad thing, but 'the people' are a very
small subsection of the population who can be early
adopters because they have the right spirit and are
fortunate enough to have access to(or even own) a
computer, digital camera, and enough bandwidth, time,
and perhaps money to spend on these activities.

I wrote Moira about my own recent road test of a
full-featured wiki (recently acquired by Google) as
well as some web-based applications being offered from
zoho, google, and many other sites.

I was using a recent IBM Thinkpad on a dialup line
about one hour from the capital of California, so
there are far worse connections being used in much
more remote places, and many are much more expensive.
It took two minutes for the home page to be displayed.
The collaborative spreadsheet program did not seem to
work well because the computer had the wrong java
version, and while I was able to get some work done,
it was time-consuming.

My own reasons for doing this are to choose a suite of
services that a very dispersed group of social
entrepreneurs can use with less patience, and I don't
want to exclude anyone because of the tools we
endorse.

Others here can certainly concentrate on more
innovative groups or individuals, and what they do
will certainly influence the slower-moving ministries
and BINGOs. That's one reason why I'm interested in
what Felipe (and Bricolabs) will do,and in the Sept.
conference in Rome: http://tinyurl.com/293zg8
